Catalogue of joint exhibition held at John Hansard Gallery, University of Southampton in 2007. The selection of artists for the present exhibition does not represent one particular school of thought or focussed development. As said by David Thorp, 'These artists signify a phenomenon, too loosely structured to be described as a movement, whose characteristic is to frequently operate at grass roots, from studios based in cramped inner city apartments or by using borrowed facilities in colleges. It shows work from one generation of artists born in the seventies and another from the previous decade who were involved in the momentous developments in experimental art in China during the mid 'eighties. Most are graduates from China's Art Academies in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou where now departments in new media are emerging. However, they are often self-taught in the medium of video.'

Artist statements and artist biographies are provided in the catalogue.
