'Crosscurrents' is the collective title of a number of exhibitions of new media art that together comprise a cross cultural discourse on art, sound, image and object. It is a travelling project starting from Shenzhen, and stopping at Hong Kong and Singapore. In each of these cities, new artworks will be added to enter into dialogue with the existing pieces. 'Sharing Memory' is an exhibition of work by Chinese artists Qui Zhijie and Jin Jiangbo that was originally shown at the Shenzhen Fine Art Institute and the Shenzhen Book Centre in 2007. In 'Sharing Memory', issues of history, society, ideology, consumerism and globalisation are examined through public interaction. Many of the artworks that use digital and computer technology revert back into inanimate objects unless there is participation by the audience. In having the audience manipulate and affect the artwork, 'Sharing Memory' explores new media as the means through which the public of a modern society can exercise their cultural power. Artist biographies are provided in the present catalogue.
