Each year the Prince Claus Fund honours individuals of outstanding merit in different parts of the world in need of funding to fulfill their mission of cultural development. The Prince Claus Award 2009 theme was 'Culture & Nature'. Since culture and nature are both responsible for the evolution of mankind, and since they are both equally significant for human development, participants whose work highlights the reciprocal relationship between these two elements were selected as Prince Claus Laureates for 2009. Included in this were the works of three Asian artists; Kanak Mani Dixit from Nepal, Liang Shaoji from China, and Jivya Soma Mashe from India.

Mentioned below are the three essays written on these artists.
