The series of work featured in this exhibition catalogue is made up of an autobiographical series of old family photographs of Taiwanese artist Chen Shunchu. In writing about this series, Chang Tsongzung writes, 'Chen's works make one aware of the sadness of time past and for this impermanence Chen offers the consolation of ritualised ceremony... In this ritualistic style Chen manages to transform not just personal pictures, but also natural scenery, into the realm of memory... He has enlarged private nostalgia into a public statement, earning him the entry into an art world that yet believes in the myth of immortality'. There is also an article on Chen's art written by his father, Chen Kingdo. An artist biography is included.
