The author compares the contemporary Indian art market to the contemporary Chinese art market and finds them to be quite distinct other than their obsessive regard to their investment potential.   At Sotheby's most recent Chinese art sale in New York, the auction house estimates that more than 50 percent of the buyers were American.  In contrast, Indian art sales in the US, are dominated by non-resident Indian (NRI) .  The auction houses tend to keep sales of "Indian" art separate from "Asian" art.  Chinese contemporay art receives more publicity and fetches more at auction than Indian contemporary art.
