'Emotional Site' took place over the course of 9 days from 15 Nov 2002 using the Saga-cho Shokuryo Building as a stage for an encounter between artists and general public, and marked the final days leading up to the demolition of the old building. Originally built in wood but destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake, the Shokuryo Building was reconstructed in 1927 made in iron and steel and housed the Tokyo Kaimai Wholesale Market and was an active place of cultural exchange between rice merchants of the early Showa period before being abandoned for many years. In 1983 when the Sagacho Exhibit Space opened, the Shokuryo Building underwent a major change of identity and became house to many gallery spaces and art dealers. It was demolished at the end of 2002 due to difficulties in maintenance from aging.
