This is the catalogue for the exhibition ‘From the Interior: Female Perspectives on Figuration’ which toured in the United Kingdom in the year 1997. Bringing together the work of sixteen leading British and Chinese contemporary women artists, the exhibition and the present publication aimed at presenting a range of female experience and an understanding of its specificity. To promote both the use of figuration in painting, and an understanding of the two cultures were also the goal of the organizer. Included in this catalogue are essays studying the various issues concerning the development of art produced by female artists. Artists’ biographies, list of images in the exhibition and an index are also provided.
