This is the catalogue for a group exhibition held at Ken & Ling Gallery in 1998. Hu Yungfen curated this show based on the idea of ‘Gaudy-ism’, on which the Chinese curator/ art critic Li Xianting had expounded, and around which he organised an exhibition in the mid 1990s. The curator found similar phenomena occurring in the Taiwanese art scene of the mid 1990s, although it was understandably different from that in the Mainland not only in terms of visual outcome, but also in political and social context. This catalogue includes an essay by the curator in both Chinese and English, and a Chinese biography of each artist.
