Catalogue of mail art exhibition held at Lalit Kala Akademi Galleries in 1997. As part of the celebrations for India's Fifty Years of Independence, artist Vivan Sundaram proposed the Gift for India project to the Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (SAHMAT) collective. Since all celebrations have gifts as part of their ritual exchange, artists were invited from all over the world to send a five-inch gift box on this particular occasion. Almost two hundred artists' gift boxes were received and presented in the exhibition.
