As the canon of contemporary artists grows increasingly global in scope, Western galleries are establishing outposts in China.  Pace Wildenstein recently opened a 22,000 square foot space in Beijing's 798 district to secure talented Chinese artists.  Gagosian is about to open in Hong Kong because of its favorable geographic location and tax environment.  James Cohan Gallery just opened its first branch in Shanghai to introduce the gallery's artists to collectors.
