This is a set of two monographs on the Chinese artist Guan Yuliang. No matter whether in monochrome or coloured ‘ink image-paintings’, the grouping together of animals, ghosts, spirits and humans in Guan’s works can be seen as a reflection of the artist’s concern and anxiety over the problems of the modern world: the conflict between man and nature, the break of ecological balance and the destruction of our environment. Essays on the Guan’s art, a detailed chronology of his life and work, and comments given by critics and scholars are included.
