This book is published on the occasion of the exhibition Happô-En, a Styrofoam Teahouse in Museum fur Ostasiatische Kusnt Berlin in 2005 and Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden in 2006. 'Happô comes from the Japanese word happô-styrene (expanded polystyrene). En stands for a lovely, well-kept place where people like to stop for a refreshment. The styroforam the artist uses is an industrial by-product manufactured for the purpose of packaging goods. After it has fulfilled this task, it must be disposed of. Kaihatsu instills a new life and a new meaning into this material by using it to construct a teahouse. In this supernatural white room the artist attempts to revive the anarchical element that the tea ceremony originally possessed.' - extracted from the preface. Included in the catalogue are artist biography and a list of works with short explanatory texts.
