This CD contains images from 'House of Oracles', Chinese artist Huang Yong Ping's first major retrospective, held from 16 October 2005 to 15 January 2006 at the Walker Art Center, USA. Working with diverse media, he has created an artistic universe comprised of provocative sculptures and installations that challenge the viewer to reconsider everything from the idea of art, to national identity, to recent history. Once one of the leading figures of the Xiamen Dada movement — a collective of artists interested in creating a new Chinese cultural identity by bridging trends in Western modernism with Chinese traditions of Zen and Taoism — Huang continues to confront established definitions of history and aesthetics. Huang's work draws from the legacies of Joseph Beuys, Arte Povera, and John Cage as well as traditional Chinese art and philosophy and routinely juxtaposes traditional objects or iconic images with modern references.

18 images total, including images of work, artist sketches and photographs of the artist. A PDF file contains details of each image. Produced by Asia Art Archive on behalf of the Walker Art Center.
