'"Image is Power: The Art of Wang Guangyi, Zhang Xiaogang and Fang Lijun" is one of the most important exhibitions the He Xiangning Art Museum had presented in 2002, and also the first large-scale retrospective for these three artists in a national-level art museum. The exhibition includes most of the artists' important works, and this catalogue, published in conjunction, is a comprehensive compilation of all the written documentation on the artists, including both positive and negative critiques as well as texts written by the artists themselves. The purpose of this exhibition is to remove various prejudices against Chinese contemporary art and further, to examine, with a historically probing eye, the creations of the artists and the time that stimulated their creation.' - Ren Kelei, Director of He Xiangning Art Museum
