International Art Residency is held annually as part of Theertha's international art exchange program where international artists are invited to work with local artists. Since 2004, the art residencies have been held twice a year. While specific working themes are not imposed on participating artists, past residencies have tended to focus on specific areas in visual arts practice, with artists encouraged to explore and stretch the boundaries of each medium. International Art Residency 2008 looks at the idea of performance and sculpture. Emphasis was placed on the work process forming an integral part of the final exhibition, which took place in June 2008. The residency program is sponsored by the Ford Foundation via Triangle Arts Trust.
