Jackson Yu was a keen disciple of contemporary culture in the 1950s who was an enthusiastic abstract oil painter. During the decades of the 1970s and 1980s, however, Yu suddenly departed from modern art to turn to the world of classical Chinese painting. It was only in the 1990s that he began to put away his Chinese brush and ink, and returned to portraying the contemporary culture. This time, he chose to paint images of human figures. The works presented in this catalogue, all colourful and highly expressive, are results of Yu’s renewed sensibility towards contemporary city life.
