Catalogue of solo exhibition by Kanchan Chander at Art Inc., New Delhi in 1996. In Kanchan's art, the aesthetic response can hardly be divorced from a social repsonse as she doubts the autonomy of art and whether art can be only for art's sake. In the artist's own words, 'Art occurs in a social situation, the maker and the art both are bound by social forces that are instrumental in shaping them. I too am subject to the same law.' The present catalogue includes essay by Roobina Karode and artist biography.
