'Lightness: A Clue and Six Faces' at Hive Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing brings together works by six artists from China and Hong Kong, including Liu Ye's still life, Liang Shaoji's installation, Xu Lei's ink work, Hong Lei's photography, Yang Fudong's video and Pak Sheungchuen's conceptual performance. 'The curator took the concept of "lightness," the classical Chinese aesthetics of yipin, the Chinese concept of high-mindedness yiqi, Confucianism, and Daoism and established a common thread running through them, utilising their universal relationship on the perceptual level rather than combing through them all with formal logic.' (Excerpt from LEAP) 'Lightness' is considered as the methodology or the aesthetic attitude of these artists in response to the complexity of the world.
