Four local communities located along the Manosegawa River and its branches in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, collaborated in this river art project directed by Ichi Ikeda. This book thoroughly documents the four water "stations" that comprised the project — For the Heaven, For the Earth, For the Water and For the Human, which were tailored to each community's unique geography and situation. Subsequent offshoots of the project are also mentioned.

Ichi Ikeda has dedicated his career to raising global awareness around issues of water conservation through international conferences, community activism, public performances and interactive installations. Ikeka encourages his viewers to consider the larger context in which they live, and to see how their current actions can affect the earth's future. He views the conscious networking of concerned individuals as a key to sustainability.
