Solo exhibition of works in charcoal, bitumen and ink on paper by Jalaini Abu Hassan. Held at the Valentine Willie Fine Art, 20 May - 12 June 2004, Kuala Lumpur. Inspired by Malayan supernatural beliefs (that are handed down the generations), Abu Hassan originally planned a drawing book on Malay legends, but "gravitated towards the supernatural incidents and manifestations that litter these stories." Dark, sepia-toned and sooty images, with a touch of menace, symbols of Balinese masks, amulets and animals are composed to depict a world of wonder and miracles, with the artist as alchemist. Includes a foreword by Noor Mahnun Mohamed. Plus biographical information.
