Mediarena reflects artistic developments of the last 30 years in Japan, with a particular emphasis on art being made now in Tokyo and Osaka. The exhibition features artists working across a wide range of media including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, sound art and video and has a special focus on the high level of digital animation and interactive work being produced in Japan today.
Mediarena is a multi-part project that includes a major exhibition at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery as well as an outdoor installation, an artist residency, a video programme and performances and lectures in New Plymouth, Auckland and Wellington. Information of these events are also provided in the present catalogue, as well as artist biographies and a foreword by Gregoru Burke.
