This catalogue is published on the occasion of MeeNa Park's solo exhibition at Doosan Gallery, Seoul, titled 'Drawings 1998–2012', which took place from August to September 2012. 'Since 1998 to 2012, Meena Park has produced an enormous number of drawings, over 800 in total. Taking off from coloring book designs made as fun playbooks or study books for children, she has continued her unique drawing practice that integrates images, text, numbers, patterns and ready-mades. While the work begins as an existing coloring book, the outcome becomes the artist's own coloring pages. Overlapping a form different from what the coloring book patterns request, Park draws according to her own rules. Like a system of directions that follows an elaborate order but flows to something unpredictable, the way Park performs in color and form is completely surprising. However, the disorder on the drawings is different from indiscreetness. She seizes a visual clue, and recklessly repeats it until the end.' —excerpt from essay by Seewon Hyun
