This catalogue is published in conjunction with the solo exhibition by Motonaga Sadamasa at Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art.

Motonaga aspired to become a comic book illustrator when he was young. In 1946, he turned his attention to Western-style painting. He is known for the originality of his painting and his use of vinyl wrapping cloth, which he filled with red water and hung from a tree. "Peinture 1965" is an early work of dripping paint after which Motonaga turned his attention to form. His works are free and playful and sometimes possess a three-dimensionality that extends beyond the boundaries of the canvas.
