This catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition News From Islands at Campbelltown Arts Centre, Australia from 1 September to 28 October 2007.

'News From Islands is a multi-tiered contemporary cultural project that combines a major exhibition, performances, commissions, publication, community projects and education and public programs for artists, children, young people and families. News From Islands investigates how information, cultural traditions, stories, histories, journeys of migration and forms of language and communication that exist, and have historically existed in the Pacific region. The project has engaged twenty Australian and international artists to harness this concept.' - from foreword by Aaron Rule, Mayor of Campbelltown.

'News From Islands has a nebulous structure. It is an open platform. It began from observations of the news in print, on television and on the Internet. How "news from islands" — such as reports on volcanoes, tsunami, ecology, history, politics, culture, anthropology and modernity — makes us aware of the gulf between these places and ourselves. News From Islands is based on an idea of the perspectives on the range of issues that face individuals and communities.' - excerpts from the essay News From Islands, Aaron Seeto.

Includes interviews and correspondence with the artists. With biographies of artists.

Please note that only artists of Asian origin are indexed.
