This catalogue is produced on the occasion of the exhibition 'Okinawa Prismed 1872-2008' held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo from October to December 2008. It claims to be the first attempt outside Okinawa to examine diverse expression created in Okinawa during the 130 years from the early-modern age to the present.
