Guillermo reviews a retrospective of the works of Onib Olmedo (1937-1996), a leading Filipino artist. He found his subjects in the streets of Manila--on Malate and Ermita. He "used distortion to explore the spirit of each human subject", not as a cubist device for restructuring the figure. His sympathy for the masses have endeared him to the Filipino people. Two other Olmedo shows are up almost at the same time: My Friend Onib at the Metropolitan Museum, and one at Gallery 9 of the SM Megamall.
