'Open Monument comprises of two artworks: a 33 laser-etched granite panelled work Transculture; and Timeline which extends over 40 meters and depicts the major contributions of the Chinese community in Ballarat, every decade from 1850 until the present. The timeline then folds out with anticipation to 2710. In Transculture, a number of social themes have been addressed by the artist. These include: alternative world vies, nature, women, modernity and leisure, translational, mining, food, civics and citizenship, law and order, welfare and religion.'—description taken from the book
