This catalogue was published in conjunction with the solo exhibition 'Ordinary Things: Sadaharu Horio 1990-99' at the Ashiya City Museum of Art & History from July to September 2002.

The activity of the Gutai Art Association, particularly its early period in the 1950s is indispensable in discussing contemporary art. Sadaharu Horio who became a member in 1966 was a late arrival to ride the wave of the Gutai movement but today, when we see his works, all of us find the continuing spirit of the Gutai artists who pursued experiments and avant-gardism.

Horio presents 100 exhibitions and performances in a year and they are backed by the great number of drawings or acts of colouring objects which he undertakes everyday. All actions from the moment he wakes up until he goes to sleep are turned into "art".

Hoiro calls these actions "ordinary things" but when continued every day, they are no longer ordinary. This exhibition tries to realize the artistic paradox in Horio's style by performing events every day.

Unlike ordinary catalogues accompanying exhibitions this publishes the record of Horio's activities throughout the 1990s which follows Documents on Works by Sadaharu Horio in 1980's published by the Art Space Niji.
