Published on the occasion of the titled exhibition at the Hong Kong Museum of Art from 20 June to 21 September 2014. A programme of Le French May and France-Chine 50, it was jointly organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Musée Cernuschi, Asian Arts Museum of Paris, and the Musée National des Arts Asiatiques Guimet. Around 100 pieces, including works in oil, Chinese ink paintings, sketches, lithographs, and sculptures drawn from the organisers and as well as other major French institutions illustrate the impact that the exotic French experience had on generations of Chinese artists, and their influence on the development and reformation of Chinese painting in the last century.
With foreword by Christine Shimizu and preface by Eve Tam. Includes contributions by Eric Lefebvre, Szeto Yuen-kit and others in the sectional entries that accompany the images of works.
