‘“Performance Anxiety” brings together these provocative contemporary artists, all of whom invite viewers to interact physically and psychologically with their works of art. They forsake the preciousness of art that we’re forbidden to touch and thrust the task of finishing their works upon the viewer, who in turn becomes the “performer”. The interactive experiences range in mood and complexity, but all of them enable us to consider the ways that a single work might be repeatedly re-created by the choices and actions of individual viewers.’ This catalogue, published in conjunction with the exhibition, contains three essays which stimulate inquiry regarding the process of making, displaying, and viewing works of art in an era largely characterised by interactive communication.
