Catalogue of Ernest Chan's solo exhibition at Sunjin Galleries in 2004. Michael Lee Hong Hwee wrote, 'Effeminacy, criminality and insanity are three enduring myths about homosexuality that artist Ernest Chan questioned in his earlier Mei Ren (Beautiful People) series (1998-2002). In that series, Chan attempted to give The Love That Dares Not Speak Its Name a tolerable front, that of the handsome hunk. His current extension of the same series, comprising 19 new paintings of men with relatively less endowed looks and bodies, appears to challenge his previous construction of male beauty.' Artist biography is provided.
