This publication is produced sic months after the retrospective exhibition of Indonesian artist Raden Saleh of the same title at Galeri Nasional Indonesia in June 2012.

The book presents the essence of Kraus' year long research and studies on Raden Saleh, including essays on Saleh's spectacular life as painter, scholar, reformer of art and education, and as a collector and preserver, in addition to a sumptuous documentation of many of his works and a great range of illustrations, pictures and portraits of Raden Saleh.

Includes Raden Saleh's letters, sketches and drawings, lithographs, plates, chronology and a name index.
