Consisting of seven parts, Radical Museology is an essay discussing issues related to the contemporary and museums of contemporary art in the world. In response to cuts in public funding, some of these institutions, as elaborated by author Claire Bishop, have found alternatives to their displaying strategies.

By discussing three museums of contemporary art, including the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, the Museo Nacional de Reina Sofia in Madrid, and MSUM in Ljubljana, Bishop theorises the contemporary not as a periodising tool but as a method that could help foster new understanding of art nowadays. These eventually turn to be catalysts of rethinking the role of museums, as well as the modalities of spectatorship these would enable.

The book is supplemented with drawings by Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi.
