This catalogue was published in conjunction with Zakkir Hussain's solo exhibition at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi in 2008. His works, which unsettle the boundaries between drawing and painting, voyage through the political, economical, cultural and social geographies of the contemporary world and raise questions concerning nationalism, identity and community.
S. Santhosh notes in his essay: "These works are declarations against the ordering of the world, they are anti-disciplinary agents which travel through forgotten and forbidden memories and histories. They are the markers of the genealogy of abandoned historical memories, tracers of silent voices; an anthology of the ever-expanding terrain of sufferings. They are in the process of becoming language of the unspeakable."
