'Drawing is uniquely democratic as a means of communication and expression. Responses proposes a pluralistic understanding of drawing practice across a wide range of multicultural frameworks.

These perspectives are explored here by writers, artists and curators involved with contemporary art practice, education and community projects, from around the world including Argentina, Zambia, Japan, India, Pakistan, Russia, USA, Trinidad, Hong Kong and Ireland.

Responses contains contributions from writers based at leading organisations such as Tate Liverpool, the Hayward Gallery in London, the National College of Arts in Lahore, and the Centre for Art International Research (CAIR) at Liverpool School of Art and Design, Liverpool John Moores University. CAIR Intercultural Drawing Practice projects are realised in collaboration with organisations including SHISHA — South Asian Crafts & Visual Arts Agency and North West Arts Board.' (back cover)
