This material was published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same title. As indicated in the foreword by Masanori Ichikawa, this exhibition presents twenty works after Toya’s ‘Woods’ (1984,) and two recent works. As Toya showed his appreciation at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the first essay by Masahiko Haito displays a new perspective on the development of the artist’s oeuvre, with a detailed discussion of Duchamp’s influence on Toya’s works, therefore suggesting conceptual quality of Toya’s works. Although Haito’s English essay excludes a specific discussion on Duchamp’s influence, it tells us about his observation of the artist’s entire oeuvre. List of exhibited works, excerpts from Toya’s writings, the artist’s biographies and full bibliography follows images of exhibited works. Some hand written scripts and illustrations are reproduced from the artist’s creative journal.
