This is a two-volume catalogue published in conjunction with Shomei Tomatsu's exhibition at the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art in 2016. 'Over a period of fifty years, Shomei Tomatsu (1930-2012), one of post-war Japan’s foremost photographers, continued to photograph Nagasaki. In this exhibition we present some 350 works that trace the recovery of that city, reduced like Hiroshima to an atomic wasteland, with a particular focus on its history and cultural climate.' - excerpted from the museum's website
The first volume features black-and-white and colour works, divided into five chapters. A supplementary volume contains texts and essays by Shomei Tomatsu, Kikuji Kawada, Eikoh Hosoe, Daido Moriyama, Junji Teraguchi, and Hiromi Kojima. Chronological history and list of works also included.
