This catalogue was published in September 2009 for Chinese photographer Chen Jiagang's solo exhibition "Smog City: Passing the Flower" held at Contemporary by Angela Li, from September to October 2009 in Hong Kong. Chen Jiagang, born in Sichuan, China in 1963, is an architect, businessman, curator and collector turned artist. His large photographic works, digitally blended, capture the destruction of China's big cities but also a yearning for the past. Many of his works are in black-and-white, often with colored figures, such as a woman dressed in a qipao, or a family in old Shanghai. Chen Jiagang uses the term "smog city" in response to the massive engineering projects in China that exceed the capacity for human imagination, particularly the Three Gorges Dam project. Included is an essay written by the artist and artist biography.
