Karen Smith wrote, 'The greatest irony in the work of oil painter Song Yonghong is that it represents true pictures of the reality that is modern Chinese society. In flat, untextured planes of comic-kitsch colour, Song presents slices of contemporary life that are startling; provoking smiles and ill-ease in the same instant.'
