Su Wong-shen was born in Chiayi, south part of Taiwan in 1956. After training as a painter in the Fine Art Department of Chinese Cultural University, he has been working with two-dimensional media including oil, acrylic and mixed media. He has had a big change in style from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, ‘from abstract to concrete’, or ‘from an expression of childish light blocks of colours to that of subtle concrete layers of colours', as the author Yung-fen HU describes in the catalogue essay. The works shown in this exhibition are from after 1998. A biography of the artist is provided in both Chinese and English at the end of the catalogue.
