Following the political and economic transition in Taiwan, and with the rise of the global era of information and consumerism, Taiwanese contemporary artists have gradually left behind the political themes that preoccupied them before the mid 1990s to focus on the social attitudes of apathy, detachment and cynicism. They turn the hollowness and cold irony of the material age on its head, to show us the intricate emotions of the microcosmic self. And in the gardens of their imagination bring about a personal 're-blossoming'.

Taiwan Contemporary Art in Wonderland presents an alternative nature of Taiwanese contemporary art that has emerged under an environment of diverse development. The exhibition features a total of 15 artists and is divided into 5 zones: 'Bizarreness and Idiosyncrasy', 'Toys and Drama', 'Industry and Metamorphosis', 'Society and the Visible but Unseen', and 'Space and Aberration'. Via their dream-like virtual world, these artists communicate private emotions and thoughts from the deep recesses of their souls.

The present catalogue includes essay by Shih Shuping and artist statements.
