AAA presented a talk by Christine Clark entitled Echoes of Home: Memory of Mobility in Recent Austral-Asian Art, an exhibition she curated in 2005, examining the importance of Austral-Asian practitioners in the area of contemporary Australian visual culture. The talk was held at the Asia Art Archive on 28th January 2008.

The recent prominence of emigrant artists from Asia in Australia’s contemporary art scene is considerable and has significantly influenced contemporary art and craft in Australia. Echoes of Home: Memory of Mobility in Recent Austral-Asian Art focuses on 14 Australian artists from Asian backgrounds who use elements of craft or draw from craft traditions in the making of their art.

Christine Clark is a writer, curator and art administrator. She was involved in the Asia-Pacific Triennial exhibitions in 1993, 1996 and 1999, and has curated a number of exhibitions focusing on the Asia-Pacific region and conducted workshops in Indonesia. A recent research interest has been the examination of work by Asian-Australian visual artists. She is currently the Exhibition Manager at the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra.
