Well-known for his panoramic black and white group portraits of workers at various country work units, 'danweis', Zhuang Hui has presented in this exhibition, entitled 'Ten Years', one hundred colour photographs of people and places he met in everyday life. These incude village shopkeepers, barbers, field workers, farm girls, waitresses; and places such as factory grounds, fields, barber shops, bathhouse, and residential apartments. Zhuang Hui's choice of models, mainly from the grassroots population, and his forthright approach, according to Meg Maggio, curator of the exhibition, can be seen as the artist's affection for and identification with these people, a characteristic of Zhuang's art that gives his photographs their artistic strength.
