This catalogue is produced on the occasion of the 7th Hiroshima Art Prize, which is awarded to Taiwanese artist Cai Guo-Qiang in 2008. An exhibition is held in the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art from October 2008 to January 2009. The exhibition introduces the dynamic world of Cai's art, focusing in particular on those of Cai's works to date that deal with war and destruction and peace and regeneration, and including new works such as a 45-meter long gunpowder drawing, an installation recreating recreating a massive wrecked ship, and an outdoor project.

In an effort to convey to people all over the world through contemporary art the 'Spirit of Hiroshima' of longing for peace, the city of Hiroshima has awarded the Hiroshima Art Prize once every three years since 1989 to an artist who has made the greatest contribution in the field of art.

An interview with the artist and artist biography included.
