Ten classical literary works on utopianism are introduced in this book, including Odyssey by Homer, The Republic by Plato, Utopia by Thomas More, The Tempest by William Shakespeare, Paradise Lost by John Milton, Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, Walden by Henry David Thoreau, Heart of Darkness by Joesph Conrad Korzeniowski, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, and Nineteen Eight-Four by George Orwell. According to Kao Chienhui, avantgarde art can be regarded as a visual manifestation of the idea of utopia. For each of the literary work, background of the author, brief overview of the book, further readings, as well as its relation with contemporary art are included.
