Trained in both Chinese and Western art, and made his journey through the worlds of the Chinese tradition, Western modernism, and the colonial and post-colonial life in Hong Kong, Wucius Wong has endowed his art with a unique character. In the words of Melissa Walt Thompson, the contributor of the present exhibition catalogue, Wong’s paintings ‘are meticulous renderings of fantastical landscapes whose features are immediately recognisable, composed in ways that are natural in appearance but surreal in effect… His images are compelling visions of nature which are accessible to a wide range of viewers, and yet are intensely personal evocations of the artist, maps of this artist’s intellectual and emotional journey through two worlds.’ This catalogue includes a biography of the artist as well as selected bibliography, publications and collections of his works.
