This publication documents 'The Quiet in the Land: Art, Spirituality, and Everyday Life, Luang Prabang, Laos', a community-based art and education project organized by Frances Morin for The Quiet in the Land, Inc., which took place in Luang Prabang, from 2004 to 2008. It features essays on individual artist projects followed by artist statements and essays on the history and culture of Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A project timeline and selected bibliography are also included.

An exhibition featuring several of the artist projects was on view at the Luang Prabang National Museum from October 2006 to July 2007.

Participating artists not listed below include Marina Abramovic, Janine Antoni, Hans Georg Berger, Ann Hamilton, Manivong Khattiyarat, Nithakhong Somsanith, Shirin Neshat and Allan Sekula.
