This catalogue accompanies Vasundhara Tewari Broota's solo exhibition 'Child Speak / Woman Song' at Vadehra Art Gallery and Shridharani Gallery, both in New Delhi, from January to February 2007. In Tewari Broota's autobiographical paintings, vibrant and multi-textured surfaces composed of layers of acrylic and oil pigments receive the female form, suggesting a female state located outside known patterns and structures. According to Gayatri Sinha, 'in foregrounding nature rather than culture, she suggests the natural progression of the female state from the girl child to the young woman to the mature post maternal body, that reveals the marks of its exhaustion, even as it becomes a site for resistance.'
