Catalogue published to accompany Xyza Cruz Bacani's solo exhibition 'We Are Like Air: A Moving Tale of Migrant Domestic Workers' held at the Hong Kong Arts Centre in December 2018.

'Xyza has titled the project with irony - We Are Like Air because migrant domestic workers are important yet often invisible. The project tells a series of bitter-sweet stories of migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong. This is a population group that plays an essential role in the development of Hong Kong. They manage daily chores in local households so that we can have more opportunities to develop our careers and interests. They are the primary carers of our offspring and our ageing parents. They spend a lot more time in our flats than their own, but cannot call Hong Kong their home. The peculiar social phenomenonm seen as an ordinary way of living in Hong Kong, deserves more contemplation, for these migrants and their contributions to our society are often ignored and rarely acknowledged. Through powerful black and white images and with eloquence, Xyza in her own narrative urges us to reflect upon our relationships with migrant domestic workers.' - excerpted from Foreword by Vivian Fung
