The five artists chosen in this exhibition were born in the 1960s/ 1970s and grew up in the era when the economy of Japan was at its strongest. Yet, they also witnessed the recession of the 1990s and such an experience, according to the curator of the show, had a strong impact on the values of these artists: they tend to become cynical and apathetic towards politics, and seem to have adopted a principle of living only for the pleasure of the moment.
